I don't know what bra size I am
Do you bra straps fall down during the day? What an annoyance! Do you have a red mark between your breasts when you take your bra off at night? Eina!
Do your breast pop out of the bra at the top or even bottom. Yuck! Do you have more rolls over your bra than a Jewish bakery on Sunday morning?
One thing that always surprises me is how ladies take time to groom themselves from top to toe everyday, but they never check that their bras fit nicely. Squeezing into a 32A when you are a 38D doesn’t make you look slimmer.
I promise.
Ok, I will forgive you since you didn’t know how to measure your true bra size. But read this and you will know ;-)
Your bra band should fit around the smallest part of your back. If you are a fuller bra size raise your hands to the ceiling and check that you do not fall out the bottom of the bra. If you do, you need a bigger size.
The under wire should support you not hurt or be uncomfortable in any way.
Sitting down when trying on a bra is best.
The cups should be firm against the breast. Changing your sup size should precede changing your band size. This is fine-tuning your sizing. Changing band sizes changes the size more dramatically so start with the cup. The center of the under wire should be flat against the cleavage area.
Most people don’t know their true bra size or cup size. They think they are a 34 (or should I say wish) and they end up being a 38D. You don’t have to wear your size on your sleeve, no one knows how many false teeth you have either – but you must wear the right cup size. Remember – If your jeans change in size, so does your bra.
But I was a 36 last time! I know, but most brands fit slightly differently depending on where they were manufactured. At least with the guidelines you will know what to look for and how to fit your purchase properly.
Back size:
The back size is always represented by the numbers 32/34/36/38/40/42 etc
To measure your back size get a friend to measure you. Place the measuring tape snug around the ribcage directly under the breasts. Add 5 to the measurement. If you scored 29 your back size is a 34 (29 + 5)
Any measurement after 33 add 3 (not 5) (33 + 5 makes you a 38).
Checking your back size:
Measure around the top of your breasts straight across your nipple and around your back. This measurement should be the same as your back size measurement. For example if you measured 29 inches around your ribcage, the calculation is 29 + 5 = 34. The measurement above your breasts should equal 34.
If the back is an uneven number try a bra size up.
Cup size:
Get your friend to stand next to you. Bring the tape measure loosely around the full part of your breast. Subtract the back size from this cup measurement. If your back measurement was 29 + 5 making you a 34 and this cup size was a 37 – the difference is 3.
The chart below determines the cup size.
